شارك وكيل رئيس اللجنة الدولية للشؤون النقدية والمالية التابعة لصندوق النقد الدولي الدكتور رياض الخريّف في اجتماع رفيع المستوى للمجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي التابع للأمم المتحدة، وذلك يوم الاثنين 13 شوال 1445هـ الموافق 22 أبريل 2024م.
وحضر الاجتماع رئيس المجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي بالأمم المتحدة، ورئيس مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة للتجارة والتنمية، وممثلين عن مؤسسات بريتون وودز، ومنظمة التجارة العالمية.
وخلال الاجتماع، استعرض الدكتور الخريّف أهم النتائج التي تم تحقيقها الأسبوع الماضي ضمن رئاسة المملكة للجنة الدولية للشؤون النقدية والمالية، وبيّن أن معالي وزير المالية الأستاذ محمد بن عبدالله الجدعان، بصفته رئيساً للجنة، قد أصدر بياناً بنتائج الاجتماع التاسع والأربعين، والذي تضمن أولويات السياسات التي اتفق عليها أعضاء اللجنة.
وذكر الدكتور الخريّف بأن البيان تضمن تأكيد الدول الأعضاء على تحقيق استقرار الأسعار، وتعزيز استدامة المالية العامة، وتعزيز الاستقرار المالي، ودعم النمو الشامل والمستدام. وأشار إلى تطلّع الدول الأعضاء إلى مراجعة إطار استمرارية القدرة على تحمل الديون في البلدان منخفضة الدخل الذي وضعه الصندوق ومجوعة البنك الدولي.
كما تم التأكيد على أهمية تكثيف جهود الصندوق في مجال تنمية القدرات وتوفير الموارد التمويلية اللازمة للدول المحتاجة. وأوضح الدكتور الخريّف ترحيب اللجنة بالعضو الجديد في المقعد الخامس والعشرين في المجلس التنفيذي لصندوق النقد الدولي في نوفمبر القادم، ممثلاً لإفريقيا جنوب الصحراء، مما سيسهم في تعزيز صوت القارة الأفريقية بالمجلس التنفيذي في الصندوق. واختتم الدكتور الخريّف حديثه مشيراً إلى أن اللجنة أعربت عن تقديرها لجهود المدير العام لصندوق النقد الدولي السيدة كريستالينا جورجيفا وترحيبها بتوليها المنصب ذاته في الصندوق لفترة رئاسة ثانية مدتها خمس سنوات.
Dr. Alkhareif Participates at UN Economic & Social Council Meeting
The Deputy Chair of the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Dr. Ryadh Alkhareif, participated in a high-level meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, held on April 22, 2024.
The meeting was attended by the President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, the President of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, representatives from the Bretton Woods Institutions, and the World Trade Organization.
During the meeting, Dr. Alkhareif highlighted the most important outcomes achieved last week under Saudi Arabia’s chairmanship of the IMFC. Dr. Alkhareif stated that His Excellency the Saudi Minister of Finance Mr. Mohammed Aljadaan, in his capacity as Chair of the IMFC, issued a statement on the outcomes of the Forty-Ninth Meeting, which included the key policy priorities endorsed by the IMFC members.
Dr. Alkhareif pointed out that IMFC members have emphasized the importance of achieving price stability, enhancing the sustainability of public finances, promoting financial stability, and supporting inclusive and sustainable growth. He highlighted that the IMFC looked forward to reviewing the Debt Sustainability Framework for low-income countries, jointly developed by the IMF and the World Bank Group.
In addition, IMFC members supported the IMF’s continued efforts to strengthen its capacity development (CD) and to secure appropriate financing. Dr. Alkhareif mentioned that the IMFC looked forward to welcoming in November this year a new 25th chair on the IMF Executive Board for Sub-Saharan Africa to improve their voice and representation and the overall balance of regional representation at the Board. Dr. Alkhareif concluded that the IMFC expressed appreciation to Ms. Kristalina Georgieva for her dedicated service as IMF Managing Director during her tenure and welcomed her selection to serve for a second five-year term.
